Colton Underwood was first introduced to mainstream audiences as a contestant on Becca Kufrin's season of The Bachelorette in 2018. In the months that followed his reality TV debut, Underwood made a brief appearance on Bachelor in Paradise season 5 and went on to lead his own season of The Bachelor on ABC.

After not finding love on television, Underwood embarked on a journey of self-discovery that ultimately led to his coming out as a gay man. This delicate moment in his life was explored in the Netflix docuseries Coming Out Colton, released in 2021, which reintroduced Underwood as someone who really wanted to embrace his sexuality, apologize for his mistakes, and open up to the dating scene of queer men.

Since coming out as gay, Underwood only returned to reality TV under competitive settings. For instance, he was featured in the first-ever season of Beyond the Edge on CBS, and actually won that show. He also had a funny stint as the character of Lovebird on season 11 of Fox's The Masked Singer.

In his personal life, Underwood started dating political strategist Jordan C. Brown in 2021. They got engaged in 2022, tied the knot in May 2023, welcomed their son, Bishop Colton Brown-Underwood, in September 2024.

In 2025, Underwood was announced as one of very few LGBTQ+ competitors on The Traitors season 4 — and fans are excited to see him play that game as a Faithful or Traitor.
